February 1, 2011 - Effective February 1, 2011 payments, Qwest will no longer automatically mail monthly pension payment advices for retirees receiving their pension via direct deposit.  You may also contact the Qwest Retiree Service Center at 1 800 729-7526, option 2, option 3, and request that your advice be mailed to you.

I continue to receive questions from AUSWR retiree members about what the recent Medicare Prescription Drug Bill is going to do, many misbelieving it is going to take affect next year.  No, it will not take affect in year 2005.  It does not become effective until year 2006.  Many have asked:  What will be the effect of the new Medicare prescription drug coverage on Qwest's retiree group health plans?  Hopefully, the following information will prove helpful to those with questions about the subject matter.

 

Here is the latest information concerning our effort to learn more about the issue of whether the Qwest Health Care Plan was heavily invested in Qwest stock, a concern that arose due to statements appearing in an official report that had been filed by Qwest on October 15, 2002, for year ending December 31, 2001.

 

When you received my November 9, 2004, letter sent on behalf of Qwest Health Care Plan participants, you elected neither to acknowledge receipt nor to respond.  Let this serve as "clear notice" to trigger a disclosure obligation under ERISA.  It would be best to hear from you, so please acknowledge you received the November 9, 2004, letter (see copy attached) and advise when we may expect your full response.

In September 2003, Qwest Communications International, Inc. announced it had made dramatic changes to its employee benefit plans providing potential benefits to retirees.  In particular, the company announced that it would begin requiring management retirees who retired after January 1, 1991, to pay a portion, at least 20%, of the annual costs of the premiums to provide heath care coverage.  The changes caught many by surprise, as they had expectations Qwest would continue to provide free health care benefits, like historically provided by U S WEST, Mountain Bell and the former Bell System companies.  Every week, I continue to get many emails about this issue as many post-1990 management retirees wonder whether or not a legal challenge can be made.  
 
 
The short answer: No.  The attachment is a ten page report in Adobe PDF file format explaining the reason there is no viable legal challenge option.

Concession

 

LD Concession---Pre 1984 Those served by QWEST Questions, Answers, and clarification on the LD concession changes.

 

Qwest changes to LD concession effective March, 2005..To continue to receive your concession on long-distance service, you must change your long-distance provider from AT&T to Qwest* by March 10, 2005. After this date, AT&T long-distance charges will no longer be eligible for concession discounts. Your concession will remain the same, only it now will be applied to Qwest long-distance charges.
