The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission today approved the pending merger between Denver-based Qwest and CenturyLink, the companies said.

The companies agreed to invest at least $50 million in broadband infrastructure in Minnesota over five years.

Nineteen states and Washington, D.C., have approved the merger, announced in April. The deal still requires approval from Oregon, Washington and the Federal Communications Commission.

The merger is expected to be completed on April 1. The combined company will be based at CenturyLink's headquarters in Monroe, La.
